Shortcuts aren't always time-savers, but these are tried and true ones for me in the kitchen.
1. Toaster Pancakes:
Step-by-Step Tutorial
a. make a batch of pancakes.
b. eat some, and leave the rest to cool down.
c. separate pancakes with cereal box liners, or waxpaper
d. put in a ziploc freezer bag and freeze!
When you're ready to eat, you simply pop the pancake in the toaster on a setting of 2 or 3 (depends on your individual toaster). My kids like the texture of a slightly crispy pancake and it is as easy as toasting a slice of bread but way more fun. Makes you look like a "Supermom!"
2. Double Duty Cleaning - Microwave and dish sponges:
My microwave often has spaghetti sauce, coffee, and milk splatters on it. Yummy, I know. But I clean that, and my dish sponges at the same time by microwaving my dish sponges!
Place a couple drops of dishwashing liquid in a microwave-safe bowl of water. Place dish sponges inside. Microwave on high for 3 minutes.
Warning: Please don't attempt to grab the bowl or the sponge out without oven mitts. Don't ask me how I know. What you'll find inside is a steamy microwave! Remove the bowl and wipe down the inside with a paper towel. It takes 20 seconds and no scrubbing to clean.
And you now have sterilized dish sponges!
